How to set up Matic Mainnet, Bridge Funds, and Create Your Polygon Tournament.

We have gotten a few requests on how to create a blockchain tournament on Polygon! Below you will find a video + written instructions that demonstrate how to add Polygon (Matic) to the networks in your MetaMask wallet, bridge tokens from Ethereum to Polygon and finalizing tournament deployment on the Polygon (Matic) Blockchain!

Overview

Polygon is the first well-structured, easy-to-use platform for Ethereum scaling and infrastructure development. Transactions on the Polygon network are fast and nearly free. You won’t have to worry about expensive gas fees and delayed transactions when deploying your tournaments onto the Polygon chain.

We are going to cover the following so you can have your Polygon tournament up and running in no time!

  • How to add the Matic Mainnet to your MetaMask Wallet.
  • How to bridge your funds from the Ethereum Mainnet to the Matic Mainnet.
  • How to create a tournament on Polygon (previously Matic).

Step One – Add the Matic Mainnet to your MetaMask

You will need a crypto wallet to start this entire process. If you didn’t finalize creating your Community Gaming account and don’t have one yet, you can download MetaMask. If you have never set up a wallet, you can check out this video to walk you through it.

When you finish filling out the basic information in the tournament creation process, you will run into a field that says Blockchain Type. Click Polygon Blockchain and when you are ready, press Create Tournament. You will initially get a Network Error message asking you to switch networks. Since you will be utilizing the Polygon (Matic) Network, you will not be able to use the Ethereum Mainnet that has been set as your default network in MetaMask.

You can click Switch Network and MetaMask will pop-up with the following message. You will follow the instructions and successfully add the Matic Mainnet to your MetaMask!

In the event that the MetaMask pop-up asking if you would like to switch networks doesn’t open, you will start by opening up your MetaMask by clicking the icon in the top right. Next you will click the three dots that lead you to the account options and click ‘Expand View’.

You will see a drop down menu that says Ethereum Mainnet.

You are going to click that drop down menu and click on Custom RPC.

You will type the following into the appropriate fields and then click Save:

Network Name: Matic Mainnet
New RPC URL: https://rpc-mainnet.maticvigil.com/
Chain ID: 137
Currency Symbol: MATIC
Block Explorer URL: https://explorer.matic.network/

You now have the Matic Mainnet attached to your MetaMask!

Step Two – Bridging Funds

Now that your wallet is connected to the correct network, you will need to transfer some funds that are on the Ethereum Blockchain to Polygon (Matic) using a bridge in order to deploy your tournament!

We used the Polygon Bridge to do this in the video and is what I will be using as well. Once you click the link you will be prompted to connect your wallet to login.

After clicking sign, you will be directed to your wallet and have the option to click Move funds to Matic Mainnet. It will bring you to a window where you can decide which currency you are wanting to move from the Ethereum Mainnet to the Matic Network. You will want to move Matic Tokens over in order to deploy a tournament on the Polygon Blockchain (Matic).

Once you decide the amount you want to bridge over click Transfer. Keep in mind, this will take a few minutes to complete.

Click Continue and then a Transfer Overview will pop-up letting you know how much gas you will have to pay on the Ethereum Network to submit your transaction. This will prompt your MetaMask to pop-up and you will have to confirm the transaction. Once you have confirmed it will take several minutes for your funds to appear in your Polygon (Matic) wallet.

Step Three – Finalizing Your Polygon Tournament Deployment

Now that you have Matic in your wallet, you will be able to click Create Tournament and the following message will pop-up!

Press ok and follow the instructions your wallet prompts you with. You will be asked to confirm the transaction and gas fees (which will be less than a penny on Polygon).

Your tournament will officially be live on the Polygon (Matic) Network and ready for automatic payouts!
